Writing a book can take years of hard work and dedication. When you're done with your revisions and finally dot that last i and cross that last t, what's next? The road to seeing your book in print, of course. There is no feeling in the world like holding the first physical proof copy in your hands—seeing your words, your thoughts in black and white, your name on the cover.
We understand that feeling.
With more than 14 years of editing experience, Sleeping Cat Books offers you, the author, the quality service and individualized attention you and your manuscript deserve. Whether you are looking for a professional freelance editor to polish your manuscript before sending it to agents or publishing houses/editors, or are thinking about self-publishing, Sleeping Cat Books is here to help you prepare your manuscript for publication in print or electronic form.
We offer many services, from copy editing or proofreading the manuscript to print interior formatting and ebook formatting. We can even help with your print or ebook cover needs. Please let us know how we can help you!
We will not claim any intellectual property rights to any material we may receive as part of our working relationship, and any personal information will be held in the strictest confidence.
Please note: until we receive full payment for the project, we retain copyrights to our edited/designed portion of the work. You may not publish any works that include our edits or design unless and until we have received full payment.
If your manuscript has already been thoroughly edited and polished, and just needs one last set of eyes before you self-publish or send it to an agent or publisher, you may wish to consider our proofreading services. Proofreading includes reading through the manuscript for spelling and punctuation errors (typos), and looking for widows, orphans, and rivers (formatting errors).
Please note that if we find more serious errors in your manuscript than proofreading services could correct, we will immediately stop work and contact you regarding how you wish to proceed.
We specialize in editing fiction (fantasy, science fiction, speculative fiction, etc.) and book-length nonfiction.
Copy editing includes checking for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and for internal consistency of facts; editing tables, figures, and lists.
At the completion of the project, we will provide you with the MS Word manuscript with Tracked Changes and a copy of the Style Sheet created during the edit. This Style Sheet contains character notes and style decision information used in the editing.
For those contemplating self-publishing, we can provide custom interior book design for your print edition using Adobe InDesign. THANK you so much for all your hard work…It has really been a pleasure to work with you. You have been extremely professional, patient and forthcoming with the wealth of knowledge that you have on this subject. I look forward to working with you again on the next book.

I had previously published my ebook using the Amazon KDP service but read about Amazon Create Space and was keen to make it available in paperback. I wasn’t very familiar with the process of formatting the book for my desired trim, even with the online help I wasn’t confident I had it exactly right, this is when I came across Sleeping Cat Books. Sarah (SCB) was responsive, flexible and a pleasure to work with, I am not convinced she sleeps as no matter what time I emailed her the response was always quick. I was extremely happy with the end product and it is now live on Amazon, so fingers crossed. I would highly recommend Sleeping Cat Books.

Sarah was hired for the interior design, ebook file setup and cover design of a non-fiction book called Stabbed in the Heart. Checkout the cover she designed on RJDblessings.com... Her work was superlative! She is extremely knowledgeable, creative, insightful and consistently provided timely responses. When the final files were taken to the printer, staff from Sheridan Press, commented that it was extremely rare to see such a high quality end product. A pleasure to work with and I would use her services again.
—Lynn Shiner, Co-author of Stabbed in the Heart
Sarah has been an absolute pleasure to do business with. She exhibits all the qualities I hope for in any business relationship; professional, communicates well, meets deadlines, produces quality work and has great customer service. She helped with the design/creation of my eBook and I couldn’t be happier. I would recommend her services to anyone in a heartbeat!
—Matthew Dworak, Author of Public Land Elk Hunting
Please know I'm exceptionally pleased with your services and the care you took with the project. I'll be recommending you highly to anyone who's looking for an editor.
—Paige Kellerman, Author of At Least My Belly Hides My Cankles: Mostly True Stories of an Impending Miracle
I first contacted Sarah back in May (2011) to contract her to edit a book I was working on at the time. She was out of my budget at the time so I couldn't use her services. But she was always on the back of my mind as someone who can do quality work because of the way she presented herself and explained her services.
I contacted Sarah again the same year for another project and I am happy to say that I was right in the first place. She does quality work and gives more than it is asked of her. Now when she quotes me a price, if it is not in my budget, I increase my budget to get it done with her. I hope she adds more services to the ones she already offers to authors, a one-stop-shop with an editor/professional like Sarah would save (anyone) headaches, time and money.
—Carlos Roche, Author of Reset Your Job Mindset
I was very fortunate to have found Sarah. She was amazing! She was prompt, meticulous, knowledgeable and the epitome of professionalism. I could not have asked for a better experience and editor. I highly recommend her services.
—Melvin Lewis, Author of Nia Taylor: White House Memoirs
I sent my book in a Microsoft Word file to Sarah and she gave, in return, an awesome formated [sic] book, easy to read and a beautiful design. I will certainly come back to her for the same purpose.
—Dennis Ripoll, Author of La muerte filosófica de Marie Duvalier
Sarah is great to work with. She is patient, responds quickly, educated me when I needed education, and gave her own ideas which helped to create a great book and a great book cover. Highly recommend her and will definitely use her services again!
—Cindy Samborski, Author of Nursing, an Amazing Career
Sarah is a joy to work with. Accurate, professional and fast, she's everything you could hope for in a copy editor.

—Alan Philps, Author of The Maw of the Moon
...I had previously written and re-written Chapter One several times but was never happy with it. Your fresh eyes and expertise have enabled me to finally get it right...
—Patrick Simpson, Author of Desert Angels, Winner of the Jada Press 2004 Nonfiction Book of the Year for Whither Thou Goest, Associate member of Western Writers of America
Sarah's copy editing helped me get published. She points out where wording doesn't make sense and finds the grammar errors.
